The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

What do you want first....good, bad or ugly?

Let's start with good and we might just skip ugly. Last night we went to the Jazz game and it was great. Such a fun win! That stadium gets LOUD! American Idol star, David Archuleta was AWESOME!!! It was so cool. It was the perfect way to end a really hard day (that is the upcoming "bad.") Thank you to our dear friends who knew just the thing for us to do!!

The problem is that wasn't the end of the day. On the way to get on I-15 we got rear-ended and it was scary. We were definitely blessed. The car is damaged but not totaled and we are stiff and a little sore but we can manage. Lame. I don't handle those things very well.

The really "good" news is that we are expecting baby #4 (early November due date). The kids are so excited and we feel blessed that we get to have one more baby. It doesn't feel like the greatest timing (considering the bad news) but I am sure it is meant to be this way. It definitely adds to how emotional I am - beware. A couple of you have already been victim to my emotional messes. Sorry.

The "bad" is that we spent a good portion of yesterday at Huntsman and concluded with a team of doctors that the best option (maybe the only option) for Kenyon is to have a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible. We met with the transplant team and learned more than I could possibly share (that is the "ugly"). If we have a donor match in the family then this process could begin in the next 8 weeks. It will require a lengthy stay at the hospital and a lot of follow-up treatment. This is definitely going to be a challenging year. But, by next year this time, we hope to have Kenyon healthy and cured. We will keep you posted as we know more. The trick is (and anyone who knows me know this could be a problem) that we have to keep the house really clean and the kids really healthy - as well as anyone who visits us in the next year.

Thanks for all the love and prayers out there. We definitely need it and feel it. And don't you worry - I already know I will need help so you just might be one of the lucky ones who finds out what it is like to have Gavin by your side (see previous post).

Sounds like you had quite the day! I am so excited that you are expecting. Our little one is due in October. They can be friends! Let me know what I can do to help this year. I am pretty good at babysitting! I'm not so good at the house cleaning part, but I'm happy to help where ever I can.

We have what we like to call the backyard of sanity, so the kids are welcome anytime (you guys are welcome too). And I love to clean...as long as it is at someone else's house :) sorry about the car accident. I am literally sick about it. that exact thing happened to us 2 years ago (pregnancy and all) - only it was on the way to the jazz game.

Let us know what we can do to help!

Annie, Hi! It's Amy from a million years ago when we went to Russia. I happened upon your blog by a link from Christina's and I just read your news. First of all -- congrats on the baby! And, I had to leave a comment to say that my prayers are with your family as you face these struggles. I am so sorry. Keep us posted.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm sorry, though, to hear about Kenyon. Everything will work out - we have to have faith in God's timing. We're rooting for you!

Oh, my word. I think I had to read this post like three times to make sure I got all the details right. Do you realize how many life-changing things you just announced? I should just close the laptop right now and call you so I can tell you A. How completely thrilled we are for you with your good news and B. We'll do anything and everything we can to help out with kids, house, rides, meals, and some comic relief if you need it. But it's 11:30 at night so I'll call you tomorrow!

You weren't kidding about the good, the bad, and the ugly.
First off, I am so stoked that you are finally pregnant!!! I can't wait to see how cute another Porter can be!
Second, car accidents are awful. Remember last year when I ripped the car door off while backing out of the garage? If you don't laugh you will cry:)
Lastly, Kenyon.
Our prayers are already with him and your little family. I would love to have all of your rug rats over anytime. Don't even hesitate to ask. And the cleaning bit...hire help.It is something that is so okay after a
4th baby!I did it.

Wow, Annie. The good is pretty dang good--a big congrats on baby #4! But so sorry about the bad and ugly... Isn't it strange how life can sometimes blend the extreme highs and lows? Hang in there, and know that we're all pulling for you.

Yah for babies, congratulations, that is wonderful. #4 did me in, but I am sure you will do great. Babies are wonderful blessings, especially when the timing isn't perfect.
