Sugar Free November - DONE.

S0...did you join me in 30 days of no treats (minus Thanksgiving)? How did you do?

My kids rocked it. Seriously. They did it without very little compliant and they did not cheat (that I am aware of). They even said no at birthday parties and friends homes when offered treats.  Life, your health, your self control - all better when you make a change like that to your eating. We will do it again.

I want to keep doing it for so many reasons but man I will be back to sugar for December (however we are going to try and be more careful and thoughtful about what and how much we put in our mouth. One of our families favorite holiday treats can be found at your local Chick-Fil-A. Oh my. And then there are the mint M&Ms. I better stop.

I tried to do it for a few days and quickly learned how addicted to sugar I really am. So then I stopped. BUT - the last few days I've had kind of an epiphany about how the excess sugar in my diet is really affecting my overall health in serious ways. I am just starting to see the effects at 25 and I'm sure that long-term there would be even more problems that would result from it. So as of this week I've started making changes and lowering my sugar intake. Thanks for inspiring me and getting me thinking about this! It's so important! We take such great care not to put harmful drugs, caffeine or alcohol in our bodies, yet so often we take no thought for the other kinds of poisons we are putting into our bodies, which are a gift from God and should be respected as such.

ANYWAY. Rambling. Good for you and your family. I am following suit!

I was not 100% perfect, but I was much, much better than I would have been otherwise. I just realized how important it is for me to be always mindful about how many treats I consume and limit myself to a few times a week rather than a few times a day (uh, like I normally do...). I feel better, my mood is more even and I eat better food when I'm hungry instead of just reaching for a cookie. Thanks for being the inspiration, Annie :)!
